Overview
Mahale is remote, expensive and utterly worth it: a thousand-strong chimp community in forested mountains rising straight from a white-sand lakeshore. Fly-in access, an intimate camp, and days split between chimp treks and the lake.
Highlights
- Three days of chimpanzee trekking

Frequently asked
Why is it expensive?
Access is by light aircraft and the camp hosts very few guests — the cost buys one of Africa's last truly wild places.
